OUR STORY

A Neighborhood Smokehouse & Taproom:

In 2022, after making it through the pandemic selling fried chicken dinners out our window, we jumped on the chance to buy a food truck parked at what was then Penn Cove Brewing in Freeland. The Braeburn at the Barnyard was born- serving all things fried chicken alongside the brewery’s craft beers.

By summer 2023, we added The Braeburn Wiener Wagon, a NY-style hot dog cart featuring creative house-made toppings. When Penn Cove Brewing closed later that year and The Greenbank Cidery took over the taproom space, we shifted gears: the fried chicken went home to Langley, and the truck took on the Wiener Wagon menu: regional dogs & brats, made-to-order mac & cheese, and plenty of crave-worthy snacks.

Fast forward to now: the Greenbank Cidery transitioned to focus on retail and moved out of Freeland. We’ve installed a wood-fired pellet smoker, built a small on-site commissary kitchen, taken over the indoor taproom space and rebranded as The Barnyard after re-opening in late November ‘25.

Featuring smokehouse sandwiches & snacks, as well as 20 tap handles of delicious craft beer & cider, a wine list and plenty of N/A options- we’re here as a place to gather and enjoy.
